Laura Martinez-Bianco
Statement
I am drawn to landscapes, working with pastels on location, gathering ideas and creating my composition. Plein air provides me with a study, a memory that jumpstart my encaustics. The composition, the color and the values are resolved in the field in the space I am standing in. In the studio I simplify the painting with broad strokes of molten pigment working towards smaller marks and lines. Each layer is melted and adhered to the last with heat guns and torches, sealing the pigment and the wax. Every encaustic is a preserved image from a plein air experience.
