This piece was inspired by the idea that in the winter, nature rests. It's a self-portrait of me resting, rooted to the earth. The last two years have been a time of healing and regeneration. Taking the time I have needed to rebuild after feeling burned out after a 25-year teaching career. I found I needed to reconnect with myself, with my roots, with the person I had suppressed to fit into a world where I could not be fully myself. I couldn't grow into the person I knew was inside waiting to come out until I took the time to recenter and emerge again.
