Artist Statement
This piece was conceived as a response to the fishermen's saying "red sky at night, sailors' delight, red sky at morning, sailors take warning... " a prediction I grew up with in the Chesapeake Bay arera of Maryland. Shrimpers, crabbers, oystermen and others often put out before dawn, when the promise of the deep night sky moving toward dawn might still be in their favour. Late sun relinquishes to darkness, hints or reds emerge, blushing with other colours and a new moon, perhaps ambigupus, leaving the choice to depart as an inky sky lays over land and water in the balance.
